Chapter Eight

Olivia drooped against the bed. Grant stopped moving and looked down. Her face was unusually pale. He shifted, pulling out of her and kneeling next to her. Her face was slack; she looked like she was sleeping. He picked up her head in his hands—it was heavy, dead weight—and said her name repeatedly.

In a moment of utter panic he pressed his ear against her chest to hear the steady thumping of her heart. He blew out a sigh of relief.

Should he call for a doctor?

He climbed off the bed, wetting a towel and coming back to place it on her forehead. As he walked back to the bed he realized there was blood on his cock.

He froze, looking down and then looking at Olivia unconcious on the bed. He got another rag and gave himself a rough swipe purely so he didn’t get blood on the bed sheets.

Her legs were still parted, limp and pale. He peered between them, and pressed his new wet rag gently to her sex. It came away with a spot of blood.

He had heard it was normal for virgins to bleed their first time, but surely fainting was not part of it.

She moved her head, saying something.

Grant jumped up, leaning close to hear her mumble.

“No, we can’t go to the bookstore,” she said. “I’m not feeling well.”

“Olivia?” He waited.

She didn’t answer.

Grant cursed and started to go for the bellpull. He would have time to dress before someone actually got up to his door, and then they could call for the doctor.

He had just brushed the rope with his fingertips when Olivia said, “Grant?”

He whirled.

She was blinking slowly up at the canopy of the bed.

“Grant?” she said again.

“I’m here,” he said quickly, running back to the bed. “I’m here. I was just about to call for the doctor.”

“Oh, you don’t need to,” she said. “I always faint when I have pain. It’s normal.”

“You’re bleeding,” Grant said, holding up the wet rag with the small spot of blood.

“It’s normal for a virgin,” Olivia said quietly. “You had to break through the barrier, and now it shouldn’t hurt again.”

Grant closed his eyes, and breathed deeply through his nose. “I apologize, Olivia. I shouldn’t have gone so quickly. I should have waited. I ought to have used my fingers to open you up more.”

She shifted slowly so she was laying on her side. “Lie down with me again,” she said quietly.

Grant did as she asked, tossing the wet towel on the nightstand. He didn’t care if it left a mess.

He laid down, and she came forward to lay her head on his shoulder. Her soft body pressed against his all the way down to his calf.

“I should have told you that fainting is normal for me,” she said. “I’m sure I terrified you.”

“You did,” Grant tightened his arm around her shoulders. “I still think I should call for a doctor.”

“I promise, it’s normal,” she said, sounding sleepy. “I promise. Once I fainted because I got a papercut.”

Grant made a dismissive sound.
